How to put in and take out colored contacts

A simple routine for beginners, step by step.

Wash and dry your hands, check that the lens is not inside out, hold your eyelids open, look up and place the lens on the white of your eye, then blink gently. To remove, look up, slide the lens down and pinch it off with clean fingertips.

Putting lenses in

  1. Wash your hands with mild soap and dry them with a lint-free towel.
  2. Place the lens on the tip of your index finger. It should look like a bowl; if the edge flares out, it is inside out.
  3. Hold your upper lid with the other hand and pull the lower lid down.
  4. Look up and place the lens on the lower white part of your eye.
  5. Release your lids slowly, look down and blink to center the lens.

Taking lenses out

  1. Wash and dry your hands.
  2. Look up, pull the lower lid down and slide the lens onto the white of your eye.
  3. Gently pinch the lens with your thumb and index finger and lift it out.
  4. Clean and store it in fresh solution, or throw it away if it has reached its replacement date.

Good habits

  • Lenses in before makeup, out before makeup removal.
  • Never sleep, swim or shower in lenses.
  • Never use water or saliva on lenses.
